No more dropouts when Android™ falls "asleep".
You have a problem with the Bluetooth connection to your hands-free? Every few minutes it's disconnecting and re-establishing? This could be a problem with the standby mode of your Android. Exactly for this problem "Bluetooth Keepalive" (in short "BTKA") can help you. BTKA prevents standby mode as long as there is an active Bluetooth connection. Thus, the Bluetooth connection remains permanently active and will not be interrupted.
[Galaxy S3 users please note: BTKA may not help - there are other errors in some S3. Cancel the sale, if it does not work]
[BMW: Some original BMW handsfree have errors with all androids - BTKA won't help you then]
Before you buy please check, if BTKA can really help you - for example your connection will be disconnected on a regular basis within the first 5 minutes, then check by follwing this procedure: Start up the Bluetooth connection with your hands-free. Use the phone at least 5 minutes - for example scroll back and forth through the contact list or by starting navigation (your operation also prevents the standy-by mode). If in this case the Bluetooth connection is not interrupted BTKA can help you. BTKA does not need "root" - only the rights requested by the Market.
After installation start BTKA manually. It registers with Android™ and will from now on start automatically whenever you restart your Android™. After starting the app there is a "Configuration" button (visible for 2 seconds), with that you can change the configuration settings for notifications and the starting-behaviour of BTKA. The "normal user" does not need to reconfigure.
Affected are e.g.: Audi/VW/BMW/Volvo/Subaru/Toyota original hands-free equipment. SGS/SGS2/SGS3 with original (updated) ICS ROM or CM7/CM9, SonyEricsson Ray, Lenovo A1 and others.
BTKA cannot help you if: the phone book does not synchronize / Bluetooth disconnected because of other software errors / there is radio interference.
Warning - Technical details: The Bluetooth disconnect takes place when the Android™ goes into deep sleep standy by mode. The hands-free can no longer communicate with the Android™ and disconnects. Some hands-free equipment synchronizes the phone book permanently and so prevents that Android™ enters sleep mode. Other hands-free equipment synchronizes the phone book only once and when Android™ assumes that it can go to sleep - it happens. The combinations hands-free/Android™ that are affected are numerous and also depend on the software-version installed. E.g. an Android™ update by the manufacturer can induce or fix the problem. BTKA will be notified by Android™, when a Bluetooth connection is being established, while any Bluetooth connection is active BTKA holds a "wake-lock", which prevents the deep-sleep standby. BTKA will be listed as a process which "drains" battery, this is caused by the wake-lock it holds. If you have a working Bluetooth-stack and a hands-free which synchronizes permanently the "Bluetooth OBEX Service" and the "Android™ OS" are listed as "drainers". So in the end the effect is the same. On my SGS2 using BTKA for 1 hour with an active Bluetooth connection drains the battery by less than 8% (with 3G, WiFi, GPS, and synchronisation also activated).
In case of a failure please see the english section on this site: http://floodping.org/btka/support_en.php
The option "Screen on while in WakeLock" should only be activated, when really necessary, because it drains the battery. e.g. Galaxy S3 users may try this option if otherwise BTKA won't work.
